The festival of Easter is laden with many traditions and customs. Easter Bunny, Easter eggs and Easter baskets have become hallmarks of this spring time festival. Easter gift basket is not simply an ensemble of various goodies and treats. Rather it brings home the meaning of Easter to all of us. There is more to these popular Easter ensemble than the eyes can see. So, let’s come together and observe the Easter Basket History and discover the essence of this spring time festival.
Since ages Easter baskets have played a pivotal role in the celebrations of Easter. As we all know, the season of spring has always been seen as a time of new life and renewal.
And in the spring, it was customary to take baskets of early seedlings to the fertility goddess Eostre (or Oestre) to increase the chance of a good harvest. According to the legends, the fertility goddess Eostre (or Oestre) carried a basket of eggs. Thus, Easter baskets signify new life, rebirth and renewal. The Easter Basket ritual has its origins in the German folklore of the Easter Hare. According to a German legend, a white hare would leave Easter baskets filled with candies, brightly colored eggs and other goodies for kids to come and gorge on them on Easter morning.
The German settlers when moved to U.S., popularized the tradition of the Easter hare. And as the days passed, the Easter hare became the Easter bunny delighting the kids with baskets of eggs, chocolates, candy, jelly beans and other goodies on the Easter morning. Nowadays markets are flooded with a large range of Easter baskets to suit all tastes and preferences. In recent years, the popularity of Easter baskets has escalated tremendously. Gift basket brings multiple goodies together without much effort and the packaging is done in such a way as to present itself as a kind gift. Rather than having to shop for a variety of goodies or treats separately, the gift giver only has to compile them in Easter Baskets. Easter Gift Basket is easy and fun way to let people know how much they mean to you.
- 2- 6 Inch Cakes, Cut in Half
- 1 Recipe of My Swiss Buttercream: goo.gl/c8942g
- 2-3 Bags of Easter Candy
- 2- 13.5 Pirouette Cookies
- Assorted Colored Ribbons
- Bake off two 6 inch cakes. Make sure to let them cool.
- Cut each of the cakes into half. This will leave with the 4 even layers of cake.
- Start by icing the cake. I used a swiss buttercream. (My recipe here: goo.gl/c8942g)
- Once you have the cake iced, add the pirouette cookies all around. I you have two flavors, alternate the cookies.
- Wrap the cake in a decorative ribbon. This will keep the pirouette cookies in place when you add the weight of the candies.
- Add your bags of your favorite Easter candies to the top.
- Enjoy.
