How To Make Vegan Butter
2016-07-17 16:53:36
Yields 1
A vegan version of butter that will change the way you butter your toast 🙂
Prep Time
10 min
Ingredients
- Ground Almonds | 1/3 Cup
- Soy Milk | 5 Tablespoons
- Olive Oil | 2 Tablespoons
- Nutritional Yeast | 1 Teaspoon
- Sea Salt | 1/2 Teaspoon
- Apple Cider Vinegar | 1/2 Teaspoon
- Granulated Sugar | 1/4 Teaspoon
- Refined Coconut Oil | 1/2 Cup, melted
Instructions
- Place the ground almonds and soy milk into a blender. Blend on high for 30 seconds until smooth.
- Add the olive oil, nutritional yeast, sea salt, apple cider vinegar, and granulated sugar. Blend for 60 seconds so that everything becomes combined.
- Finally add the melted coconut oil. Blend on high for 90 seconds. We want the "butter" to become smooth and a little bit airy.
- After the 90 seconds, place the butter mixture into a mold or a jar. I like to use silicone ice cube trays to create smaller portions for my vegan butter.
- Enjoy!
Notes
- You can freeze your butter to increase the shelf life. Just pull out before using and thaw in the fridge overnight.

The use of granulated sugar is questionable in a recipe deemed to be vegan.

Great read, but not all granulated sugar has bone char in it. Just got to buy approved sugars 🙂
I am a new vegan
Let me know if you need any advice.
This is great, thanks for posting! Now I don’t have to rely on store bought products that always seem to have palm oil!
Can I use this butter for baking, too?
Absolutely
I can’t use soy I was thinking about trying to make this with coconut milk. What do you think?
I’ve tried it with almond milk and it worked great. Don’t see why coconut milk wouldn’t work. Let me know if you try it.
does the almond milk make it taste like oats/oat meal ??
No I don’t think so.
This excellent website certainly has all the info I needed
about this subject and didn?t know who to ask.
Can this butter be used to fry these in a frying pan?
Thanks 🙂
I wouldn’t. You may be ok with a quick a stirfry, but not full on deep frying.
Is ground almonds = almond flour?
You can use them interchangeably. Yeah. Ground almonds may be a bit more course than almond flour, but won’t change the recipe.
sounds GREAT!
how long will it be kept in the fridge?
thanks
I would say about 2 weeks. If you feel like you can’t finish it in 2 weeks, i’d half the recipe.
Hi! I’m planning to use this butter in a vegan chocolate orange cake. If i substitute apple cider vinegar for fresh squeezed orange juice do you think your vegan butter will still set up correctly? Also I’m planning on using almond milk instead of soy. Ty!
I don’t see why not. Would love to hear about your results.
Hello it look so great vegan butter recipe !
Can i use this for frosting butter cream ?
oh and also can use extra virgin coconut oil instead of refine coconut oil?
Yeah. I don’t see why not.
Absolutely. It makes a delicious buttercream.
Thank you so much for the recipe. I’m new to this whole thing veganism. Are used almond milk and no sugar and it turned out wonderful! Thank you so much for the recipe!
